Bloodstock Open Air 2015 – Day 3

Another day full of riffs lay ahead at Bloodstock, with a diverse line-up of artists throughout the day. Today marked the appearance of Within Temptation in the headline spot and Opeth as the sub-headliner, but this booking caused controversy as many believed that the latter should have been headlining. But were these comments valid? With this in mind I scrambled to the arena. Up first were the leading lights of the British thrash scene, Savage Messiah. They certainly woke the crowd up with “Iconocaust,'” with frontman Dave Silver waking the crowd from their slumber. Their dedicated fans sang the words to “Hellblazer,” “Scavengers of Mercy,” (which was played the previous night by the DJs) and “Cross of Babylon,” and their voice was heard. Savage Messiah’s performance was a great start to the day, nothing spectacular but pure good old-fashioned thrash. Despite all the odds being against them, Xerath still played an entertaining set. Two days prior to the festival they had to enlist a substitute member, but this was unnoticeable as they played like a well-oiled machine.
